Inter Miami tied 1-1 with New York City FC on Saturday night, putting their 4-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls in the rearview mirror.

Lionel Messi didn’t play, as he’s being rested ahead of Inter’s next CONCACAF Champions Cup match mid-week. Miami are now second in the Eastern Conference after picking up a point, while NYCFC are 14th with just four points through six games.

Luis Suarez scores 5th goal in 7 games

Miami got off to a quick start at home, taking the lead through Luis Suarez in the 14th minute. The savvy striker guided his header into the back of the net following an in-swinging free-kick from Julian Gressel.

Miami’s lead vanished within 20 minutes, though, following an error at the back from Jordi Alba. Alonso Martinez latched on to a pass from Keaton Parks and unleashed an unstoppable right-footed strike to tie it at 1-1.

Within the first 10 minutes of the second half, both teams created solid scoring chances, but they failed to capitalize. Suarez was particularly dangerous, getting on the end of several chances and lamenting that he wasn’t able to get his second goal.

Messi was present at Chase Stadium, taking in the game from the stands. He’s expected to be ready for Miami’s CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-final game against Monterrey on Wednesday, April 3.
