Scotland v Northern Ireland preview

Scotland will be looking to get back to winning ways on their home turf on Tuesday following a 4-0 defeat in Amsterdam on Friday night against the Netherlands.

Defeat on the continent last weekend leaves Steve Clarke’s side without a win in their last six matches, and with defeats in four of those matches.

Tuesday match against Northern Ireland will be Scotland’s last before Clarke names his squad to take to Germany for this summer’s Euros, where he aims to become the first manager to lead the Tartan Army to the knockout stages of a major competition.

Scotland will have two more friendlies in June against Gibraltar and Finland as final preparation for Euro 2024, before their campaign starts on the opening night against the host nation in Munich.

The Scots will then travel to Cologne to take on Switzerland before their final match of the group stage in Stuttgart against Hungary.

Northern Ireland will also be looking to get back to winning ways on Tuesday night but will be happy with their draw they earned in Bucharest on Saturday night against a Romania side who qualified for Euro 2024 top of their group and unbeaten.

Michael O’Neill’s side endured a difficult and disappointing qualifying campaign in which they finished fifth out of six in Group H, only ahead of San Marino, meaning they will play no part in this summer’s Euros.

The Green and White Army lost seven of their 10 matches in qualification, though did finish on a high with a win over Denmark, and will now be preparing for the new Nations League campaign in September, looking to earn promotion back into League B at the second time of asking.

Scotland have won three of the last four meetings between the two home nations, drawing the other, with Northern Ireland only having won one of the last 10, going back 44 years, and are winless in Scotland since 1974.

📝 Scotland v Northern Ireland betting tips

BetVictor have boosted the odds of a handful of their bet builders, of which some look rather tempting, including that of both teams to score, over 3.5 goals and Lawrence Shankland to score twice, which is now available at 22/1.

For those expecting Scotland to continue their winless run into the summer, the same bookie are now offering 15/1 on Northern Ireland to win or draw, over 2.5 goals and Jamie Reid (who scored in Bucharest on Friday) to score.
