Porsche’s true character unveiled in ‘bad moments’ – Da Costa

Antonio Felix da Costa has admitted that the recent “bad moments” have shown Porsche’s “character”, as the team is sticking together to solve the current issues.

The Season 6 Champion has made a disappointing start to 2024 and is yet to score a point, increasing the pressure on the Portuguese driver ahead of Saturday’s São Paulo E-Prix.

He did progress to the final duel and then finish fourth in the first ever Formula E race in Brazil last season, something he is hoping can be replicated having undergone a complete reset during the recent seven-week break.

“Massively, I’m not hiding that, obviously we want to win,” da Costa told RacingNews365, when asked if resetting was beneficial. “And even the championships that I haven’t won, I’ve always been there in the fight. So that’s always the goal, and that hasn’t been clearly the way we kicked off this season.

“But now it’s the time to get together as a team, really use the word team. It’s in the bad moments that you see everyone’s character. And now it’s time to show our strength to come together and turn it around.”

Lack of confidence

Of the four Porsche-powered drivers, da Costa is the only one yet to score a point, something which has baffled many considering how strong he looked during testing.

His struggles are already hurting the factory Porsche outfit in the Teams’ Championship, whilst there is also the new manufacturers trophy to consider as well.

In terms of why he has endured a poor start to Season 10, da Costa simply puts it down to a lack of confidence.

“I don’t think there’s anything huge but just honestly the confidence when I’m starting to push the car is not there,” da Costa admitted. I think Mexico and Riyadh being two very tricky tracks. you need the confidence, especially at Riyadh between the walls, you pay a bigger price there.

“We’ve looked into all of the areas that we can attack, we did a few changes in the car, few changes in the driving style, try to get on top of that. And obviously this has been a track that we were very good last year.”
