‘Phil Foden is God’, jokes Liam Gallagher as Gary Neville makes Euro 2024 demand after Manchester derby heroics

Gary Neville believes Gareth Southgate should build his England team around Phil Foden after his Manchester derby heroics.

Foden spearheaded Manchester City’s impressive comeback victory over Manchester United with two fine goals in the 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

A stunning strike from Marcus Rashford early on and Erling Haaland’s woeful miss just before half time made it look like it wasn’t going to be City’s day.

But Foden had other ideas and got Pep Guardiola’s men level on 56 minutes with a fizzing effort into the top corner of the net from the edge of the box.

The derby was then turned on its head when Foden fired through Red Devils goalkeeper Andre Onana on 80 minutes before Haaland netted in stoppage time.

Foden’s enjoyed a fine season having scored 18 goals and provided ten in all competitions thus far.

And former Oasis frontman Gallagher believes it was a heavenly performance by City’s no.47, saying on X: “Phil Foden is GOD.”

Man United legend Gary Neville doesn’t subscribe to Gallagher’s suggestion that Foden’s display was something divine but insists Southgate should sit up and take notice of what Foden is doing ahead of Euro 2024.

Neville said on commentary for Sky Sports: “The England team should be built around him [Foden]. He’s special.”
