Perez penalised in huge Saudi Arabian GP twist

Sergio Perez has been penalised by the stewards at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, following an unsafe release.

Like the majority of the drivers, Perez completed his opening pit-stop during the first safety car period, which was required after Lance Stroll crashed heavily at Turn 22 on the sixth lap.

Perez had been in second when he made his pit-stop, but was released from the pit box directly into the path of Fernando Alonso. Alonso quickly complained over the radio that he almost crashed, something the stewards quickly investigated.

The Mexican driver was given a five-second time penalty, which will be added to his finishing time should he not pit again at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

Elsewhere, Kevin Magnussen has been given a 10-second time penalty whilst Lando Norris was judged to have not jumped the start. Stroll and Pierre Gasly are the race’s only retirees so far.
