Defending for their lives, Burnley put in a number of strong challenges including one from David Datro Fofana on Mads Roerslev in the middle of the park.

The awkward challenge saw Fofana – who missed a clear open goal in the match – inadvertently knee Roerslev in the chin, leading to a lengthy stoppage in play.

While the defender was receiving treatment, tempers flared on the touchline with Maupay involved in a war of words with Burnley’s Josh Brownhill and Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson.

But after seeing the French forward getting involved in the drama, Thomas Frank promptly stormed over to Maupay and urged him to sit down.

Maupay is no stranger to controversy having built up quite a reputation as arguably the Premier League’s biggest wind-up merchant.

While it’s not known exactly what was said in the technical area, it is no surprise to see the French forward involved in an altercation.

Bleeding from the mouth, Roerslev eventually walked off the pitch with a blood-stained tissue to his face as he was replaced by Keane-Lewis Potter.

It was clear that it wasn’t going to be Brentford’s day when Fofana made up for his earlier miss by scoring just after the hour-mark to make it 2-0 to Burnley.

While still eight points from safety having played a game more than 17th-place Everton, Burnley will be buoyed by their fighting performance.

However for Brentford, they’ll be looking over their shoulders with just five points separating them and the drop zone.
