Laporta: Barcelona rejected an offer of 200 million for Lamine Yamal

Joan Laporta admitted on Saturday that Barcelona has rejected an offer of 200 million for Lamine Yamal.

The news was provided exclusively by MARCA on March 9. It was PSG who, through Jorge Mendes, made the proposal for the Blaugrana forward.

Barcelona rejected the offer from the French club because they consider the player to be the future of the team.

This is how the Laporta explained the decision: “We have received offers for players like Lamine Yamal, for 200 million euros, and we have said no. Because we trust the boy, because he is the future of the team.

“Because we trust in the boy, in his sporting potential, and we don’t have the need, on the contrary. We are in a process of economic recovery and we are already seeing the end of the tunnel”, said Laporta, who emphasised the good moment the club is going through.

Barcelona’s current financial situation

Barcelona’s financial situation suggests that it’s possible there will be sales to help the situation. In this sense, it is clear that a fee of 200 million for one of their players would be an excellent way of levelling out the imbalance they have in the Financial Fair Play.

However, the club’s position is clear in this regard as the priority is not to weaken the team.

“We have offers for all our youngsters Pedri, Balde, Gavi, Araujo… but we don’t want to sell our stars,” said Laporta.

The search for funds, as the president said during his appearance, is now going in a different direction. Laporta is willing to definitively break the contract with Nike and look for other sponsors that will give more money to the club.

If he accepts Puma’s proposal, he would receive a bonus of 100 million for signing the contract plus what the German brand would pay annually, which exceeds that amount.
