Jack Grealish’s former teammate has lifted the lid on the Manchester City star’s incredible level of dedication, which left him stunned.

Derby midfielder Conor Hourihane spent four years alongside Grealish at Aston Villa, helping the club win promotion back to the Premier League in 2019.

The pair formed a solid friendship on and off the pitch until Grealish swapped Villa Park for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the summer of 2021.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Hourihane fondly remembers his time playing alongside the ex-Villa captain and paid tribute to his incredible work-ethic, claiming it often goes under the radar.

Hourihane also revealed that Grealish’s dedication led to him taking a well-earned siesta at the club’s training ground in between training activities, rather than packing up and heading home.

“He’s a great guy and an unbelievable footballer,” Hourihane told talkSPORT.

“I knew in the last year of playing with him he was probably going to go onto a big move.

“With his quality, he rose to the next level constantly. He put a huge amount of work into his game as well.

“He would sleep at the training ground for a couple of hours and then wake up and go to the gym – things that people don’t see.

“His sacrifice to try and improve his strength and technical ability was there from the get-go when I arrived at the club. To see him go to Man City for £100m and then win the Treble is something that he deserves.

“It was a privilege to play with him, his level was top.”

Grealish returned from injury as an unused substitute for Manchester City’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Newcastle on Saturday.

Graeme Souness admits he’s ‘not Jack Grealish’s biggest fan’ and says Manchester City man hasn’t improved under Pep Guardiola

The 28-year-old is not part of the England squad for the upcoming double header against Brazil and Belgium and will instead follow a training plan to ensure he is fit and ready for City’s hectic run-in.

Guardiola’s side returned to Premier League action on March 31 with a mouthwatering clash with leaders Arsenal.

Grealish is likely to have a key role to play if City are to complete an unprecedented back-to-back Treble.

City will take on Real Madrid in a much-anticipated Champions League quarter final next month before taking on Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, and they’re competing with Liverpool and Arsenal for the Premier League title.
