I’m WWE’s biggest young star, was knocked out by Tyson Fury and put on live TV with The Rock with 30 minutes’ notice

Austin Theory says he was given barely any prior warning about his recent television showdown with The Rock on SmackDown.

Theory, a former WWE United States Champion, is regarded as one of the finest young athletes in the company.

A brash heel – bad guy – character on-screen, the cocky upstart was said to be a firm favourite of former head honcho Vince McMahon.

Under McMahon’s guidance on screen – and presumably off it – Theory rose to the upper echelons of WWE after a run on NXT.

After being taken under McMahon’s wing, Theory made up for losing his US title to Bobby Lashley at Money in the Bank in 2022 by controversially winning the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

McMahon announced Theory as a late entrant into the bout, a move at the time said to be due the athlete making a major impression on his boss.

Despite McMahon’s controversial exit from the company, Theory has remained in a prominent position in WWE, not least thanks to his ability to trash talk his way into trouble.

It’s perhaps no wonder, then, that he was the chosen figure to verbally joust with The Rock when The People’s Champ returned to SmackDown last September.

The Great One ventured to the ring to aid Pat McAfee who had been interrupted by Theory at the start of the episode, prompting what was the first of many appearances back in the WWE circle for the Moana star.

Theory, still just 26, exchanged heated words with Rock before being taken out – Rock delivering a trademark People’s Elbow for good measure.

The starlet has since revealed that he had virtually no time to prepare for an on-screen segment with one of the biggest stars on the planet.

Speaking on the iHeart Radio podcast, he explained: “That whole experience with The Rock, that was so cool.

“It was so last minute. I literally found out maybe 30 minutes before.

“I actually met The Rock five minutes before that, and we went out there and we just felt the crowd and let everything rock and everything…  everything just flowed man.”

Theory is used to high-profile moments in WWE despite his relatively young years.

He attempted to cash in his Money in the Bank Contract in Cardiff, Wales at Clash at the Castle in 2022, but was thwarted by Tyson Fury.

Watching at ringside, the boxer prevented Theory from interfering with the night’s main event by delivering a stiff looking punch to the side of the wrestler’s head.

Theory has also been given a Stone Cold Stunner by legend Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38.

The grappler is presently well matched on screen, presently paired with Aussie bad boy Grayson Waller as the team A-Town Down Under.  The duo regularly trade turns in taking a beating from WWE’s top good guys.
