‘I put hands on him’ – Leon Edwards’ brother details brutal sparring sessions with UFC welterweight champion

Brotherly love goes out the window when Leon and Fabian Edwards spar.

The Bellator middleweight contender is one of the main training partners his older sibling uses to get ready to defend the UFC welterweight title.

Fabian and Leon share a tight bond outside of the gym, but once they begin trading leather in sparring, ‘The Assassin’ insists he treats his brother like everybody else.

“I just try to make him better,” Edwards told talkSPORT MMA.

“I try to remove all that brother stuff and give him that work.

“It’s the same vice versa because, at the end of the day, my job is to make sure he is getting the work he needs.

“I just remove the brother thing and put hands on him. It’s just being professional. Just take it all away and give him the work and give him the look he needs.”

The 30-year-old has helped ‘Rocky’ prepare for some of the best fighters on the planet, and he thinks they have a perfect setup at Team Renegade in Birmingham.

He added: “For certain camps, I’ve been his main sparring partner because there’s not much weight between us.

“What more can you want? A brother that is the number one contender and a brother that is a world champion training together.”

Fabian will look to rebound from his first knockout loss this weekend.

Bellator middleweight champion Johnny Elben stopped him with strikes in three rounds before angering Leon by going too far with his celebrations last September.

Aaron Jeffrey is the latest man to stand in the way of Fabian’s world-champion dream, and they will clash at Bellator 303 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Friday night.

The Jamaican-born Englishman believes an impressive performance against Jeffrey should be enough to earn him another shot at Eblen’s world title.

Edwards added: “They say this is a number one contender fight.

“After I go in there and do my job, I’ll be looking forward to that rematch. Whether it’s in the summertime or later in the year, I’ll be waiting for that rematch.”
