Emma Hayes accuses Jonas Eidevall of ‘male aggression’ after she pushed him at Conti Cup final

Chelsea Women’s coach Emma Hayes has accused Jonas Eidevall of ‘male aggression’ after a heated clash between the managers.

Hayes clashed with the Arsenal Women’s head coach immediately after the Gunners beat the Blues 1-0 in the Conti Cup final, thus ending Chelsea’s top four hopes.

At the end of the match, Eidevall came across to shake Hayes’ hand, and she pushed him away.

The Chelsea boss also wagged her finger in the Swede’s face, who looked baffled by her reaction.

When asked why she was so angry with the Arsenal boss, Hayes said: “I’m not down for male aggression on the touchline.

“He got a yellow card, and he should probably have been sent off.

“His behaviour on the touchline wasn’t acceptable.”

Speaking after the game to BBC, the Arsenal boss revealed what he thinks caused the issue.

He said when asked about his version of events: “Mmm… Okay.

“My word on what was happening would be that before the game, we had a discussion between the clubs about whether to use one ball or multi-ball system.

“In this situation, Arsenal said multi-ball, Chelsea said one ball. The decision was to play the final on a one-ball system.

“The ball goes out of play, the Chelsea player wants a new ball to take a quick throw-in. I said, ‘we play with only one ball and you guys decided that’.

“Obviously, it now drives all kinds of emotions in there, nothing more, nothing less.

“I can’t see that I did anything, had any form of contact with anyone – either a player or a coach. That was it.”

He also said he wouldn’t be taking the claims he was an ‘aggressor’ seriously.

The game itself was also dramatic as Frida Maanum collapsed and was taken to hospital.

The Arsenal player went down with no one around her at the end of the second half.

She is said to be in a stable condition and is now conscious as well.

There was also a late winner as Stina Blackstenius scored deep into extra time to break Chelsea’s hearts.

At the end of the game, Hayes immediately confronted her opposite number before having to be kept away from the Arsenal boss.

And judging by the comments, this issue isn’t going to be straightforward to sort out.
