Eddie Hearn expresses concern for Ryan Garcia amid ‘erratic’ social media posts before Devin Haney fight

Eddie Hearn is worried about Ryan Garcia after his rogue social media activity sparked concern this week.

The American boxer will take on bitter rival Devin Haney in a high-profile showdown on April 20.

Things have taken a sharp turn for the worse this week, with Garcia having sparked significant worry with a whole host of social media posts.

Garcia first suggested that he was high during an interview, which led to Haney threatening to abandon plans for a press conference.

The 25-year-old has now posted suggesting that he was under attack, in a bizarrely worded post which even prompted Haney to make a response.

Despite Garcia’s father dismissing the post as ‘trolling’, Hearn believes Garcia may need people around him to guide him through a difficult spell.

He said during an interview with iFL TV: “I saw that with Ammo [Williams] and obviously I saw it with Scott [Fitzgerald] and they are both very different situations, and I think that I can see it in Ryan too, and I do worry.

“I just noticed mannerisms around them, and this was nothing to do with substances, but you just see something changing mentally and emotionally in their behaviour.

“Forget about the fight, I hope that he makes the fight, but he really needs to get into training camp.

“I’m worried about the people that he has got around him. He’s not even my responsibility, but what I have seen in the last few days and obviously what came last night, is erratic behaviour and erratic behaviour stems from something.”

Garcia has already admitted struggles with mental health, having taken a break from boxing in 2021 to prioritise his wellbeing.

His ex-wife has even revealed that his family are also concerned with his activity online, insisting that fans should ‘pray for him’.

Both fans and Garcia’s opponent Haney will be hoping that things are back in order so that he can adequately prepare for their mammoth clash this spring.

It could be an extremely important fight for Garcia’s career, with the contender needing a win to bounce back from disappointment against Gervonta Davis.
