Bizarre ‘unprecedented’ reason why Jude Bellingham and Real Madrid wore kit from last season during Valencia clash revealed

Real Madrid fans who spent their hard-earned cash on this season’s shirt may have been disappointed on Saturday.

The LaLiga giants drew 2-2 away at Valencia, and breaking down their staunch defence may have not been their only frustration.

As the club’s media team entered the locker room pre-match for photos and videos, fans were surprised to see last season’s away kit laid out.

That’s because the league ruled against of their 2023/24 strips due to a clash with Valencia’s black and white home outfit.

MARCA report that the ‘unprecedented’ decision was made ahead of the match as the league refused any combination of this season’s shirts and shorts.

Madrid’s home strip is the classic white, and their third is black, and very close to their dark navy away kit, which didn’t give them any leeway.

Instead they wore last season’s purple away kit, with the timing not very pleasant for Vinicius Jr.

The Brazilian was subject to racist abuse at Mestalla while wearing the same strip last season.

On this occasion he struck back, scoring twice to wipe out Valencia’s 2-0 first half lead.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side thought they had all three points with the last kick of the game, but it turned out the referee had already blown the whistle before Fran Garcia’s cross met Jude Bellingham’s head and nestled into the back of the net.

The England superstar was sent off as Madrid’s players fumed at referee Jesus Gil Manzano and MARCA claim he told the official: “It’s a fucking goal! The ball is in the air!”
