Amad Diallo admits he forgot he’d already been booked having been sent off after scoring a dramatic winner for Manchester United.

The Manchester United forward sealed his side a 4-3 win over rivals in the final moments of extra time but having already been booked he was given a second yellow for taking his shirt off in his celebration.

The two teams played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in normal time with Marcus Rashford blowing a gilt-edged opportunity to win the sixth round tie with the final kick of regulation time.

Liverpool looked set to win the tie when Harvey Elliott’s deflected effort from distance put the visitors in front in the first half of extra time.

But Erik ten Hag’s men hit back through Rashford’s equaliser before Diallo finished in the final seconds of extra time on the counter-attack.

Scott McTominay put Man United in front on ten minutes but Liverpool found themselves ahead at half time with strikes in quick succession from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah.

A neat finish by Antony on 87 minutes sent the tie into extra time before Diallo ended Liverpool’s hopes of a quadruple in the most dramatic way.

Diallo was understandably ecstatic to get the winner and took his shirt off as he ran to the jubilant Man United fans.

But referee John Brooks had no choice but to dismiss the Ivorian, who had earlier been shown a yellow card.

The 21-year-old was crestfallen as he was given his marching orders and later admitted to not remembering he had been cautioned earlier in the game.

He said: “I forgot the first yellow, so I am very disappointed for that red card.

“But the most important thing for me is to win, and to do it against a big team like Liverpool is a dream… a big, big moment for me.”

However, this will only be a slight stain on the elation Man United fans are experiencing with the FA Cup their only realistic chance of silverware this season.

Rashford said after the game: “Today represents what it’s always represented for me. Nothing’s changed.

“It’s a massive night in the history of United against Liverpool. We’re happy that it gets us through to a semi-final but even if it’s a normal game against Liverpool, we need to win.”

On Diallo, Rashford said: “I’m happy for him.

“He’s been working hard this year and he’s probably not had the opportunities that he would have wished. But if he wants to have more opportunities there’s no better way to prove it than nights like tonight.”

Captain Bruno Fernandes told ITV: “It was in our minds. We said our goal for the rest of the season is getting into the top four and trying to win the FA Cup.

“We’re going to do everything we can to get the two goals that we have, until the end of the season.

“The FA Cup is a big trophy for the club, (in) this country. We want to get into the final. We know it’s going to be tough, good teams in the semi-finals, but we’re going to do everything we can to get there.”

Meanwhile, Klopp will not be signing off with four trophies at the end of the season, however, Liverpool are still in the hunt for the Premier League title as well as Europa League glory having already won the Carabao Cup last month.
